On May 28th, 2005, Kathleen was awarded her Master's degree in History. I flew out for the occasion and spent the Memorial Day holiday weekend with Kathleen and her folks. In the midst of this momentous event, Kathleen started packing up her life to move it all to Illinois, so the apartment was a bit of a books/glassware explosion. We celebrated, and then got to work on packing the place up.
Mr. and Mrs. Kvortek amidst the packing that Kathleen had managed before we arrived.
Lisa dropped by on her way to see Pat and dropped off a graduation gift for Kathleen. I took the chance to document the moment.
On our way to the convocation ceremony, Kathleen swaps to the money shoes.
It was tough to get good shots during the ceremony, because a point-n-shoot can only do so much. :( Anyway, here a couple of photos that are not that clear, but their significance makes up for it, I think. Here, the History faculty processes in wearing their robes.
Kathleen passes proudly by in the procession.
I had to enhance this one a little, but I thought getting Kathleen's handshake-cum-Master's was important enough. :)

We did a couple pictures outside after the ceremony.
The next day, we went to a breakfast brunch at Winterthur. Mrs. Kvortek wanted a picture of this striking Chinese maple.
Later Sunday, we went to Hagley. This semester, Kathleen has been working on an exhibit on the American World's Fairs for the museum. She wrote many of the wall labels, researched and found numerous artifacts and photos, and wrote quite a bit of the promotional literature. She's very proud, and seems quite happy with how it has turned out.
Kathleen shows her mother some of the construction that is going on at Hagley.
Kathleen has really enjoyed her time at Hagley and in Delaware. Here's a more panoramic view of the Brandywine with Kathleen.
The Mill Race, which powered the powder mills at Hagley.
One of Kathleen's classes this semester involved doing a dig of the site of a powder press explosion. Here she poses by one of the larger pieces from the destroyed press. Things like that tend to happen when 75,000 pounds of black powder go up at once.
This is a potentially backgroundable image thanks to Kathleen.
Here Kathleen celebrates the fact that her friend Lindsey had picked up the couch. No couch, no where to sit!
The whole day Monday, Kathleen, Mrs. Kvortek and I started to pack up Kathleen's apartment. Like I said, lots of glassware.. K seems pretty jazzed, eh?
And Kathleen says good-bye to Delaware and to the Mid-Atlantic. I think she's going to do well in the Windy City. I'm glad I'm part of the endeavor. :) More moving pictures to come..
