Our first whole day, we were whisked away on a wine tour of Tuscany.
Our guide brought us to a small hilltop village called Barberini.
Across the valley was San Gimignano, a medieval tower town.
San Gimignano as a backdrop. We're here at our first winery stop.
This is the main piazza (plaza) of Siena. Twice a year, the neighborhoods of the town race horses around the piazza. There was a soccer match that day, so people were enjoying the weather before the game.
Our tour guide was from Siena, so she had a lot to show us in her hometown.
The vineyards of the next winery we visited
This winery produces, among other varieties, legitimate DOCG Chianti. This is the machine that puts the gallo nero (black rooster) on the bottle.
Back in Florence, we hiked up to Piazzale Michelangelo for an evening view of the city.
Kathleen's green jacket made it easy to find her in a crowd.
