On Monday, May 24th 2004, Kathleen and I took a quick trip to Philadelphia, which is about an hour or so away from her apartment in Delaware. We toured a few hostorical locations and otherwise just ambled around town. I was surprised by the beauty of the town, but I guess I should have expected it. There were gorgeous townhomes and parks all over. It's touristy, but Philadelphia is a real living city.
Kathleen posed nicely before the original building of the American Philosophical Society, founded by Benjamin Franklin. This building is on the same grounds as the original House of Congress and Supreme Court building.
This fireplace is a good example of Federalist styling. The urns give it away. Marvel in my knowledge of decorative arts. Thank you Winterthur.
I found these stairs in the Supreme Court building notable. The stairs lead to the galleries. This building was built specifically so that the public could observe the justices and the judicial system.
An epitaph for Ben Franklin in his own words
Across the harbor, the USS New Jersey (I believe) is docked.
The Olympia, which hosts a classy seafood restaurant and a Carribean cocktail bar
